Shops
The University offers a wide range of services to members of the UMBC community. In addition, the Mass Spectrometry and NMR Facilities are also available to the research community at large on a for-fee basis. The facilities serve as a resource offering service, training and instrumentation with the primary aim of providing investigators with access to modern instrumentation and/or sample analysis. The glass shop is also available for services both within and outside of the UMBC community. To learn more about the services we offer, please select the appropriate link below. The NMR and Mass Spec Research faculty have both relocated to the Proteomics / Mass Spec and NMR Facility in room 006 Meyerhoff Chemistry Building. Glass Shop
Custom Glassblowing Services for the UMBC Community and Off-campus Clients
Expert scientific glassware and glass component repair, design assistance and manufacture of novel glass pieces, and general glassblowing services are available to University System of Maryland users at a charge of $45.00/hour plus the cost of materials. Services are available to outside entities at a rate of $70.00/hour plus the cost of materials. Glassware is only produced for companies or laboratories. Electronics Shop
The electronics shop is open normal business hours and is staffed by Nickolai Galitsky. The shop can provide a substantial range of complex technical support in the areas of repair, design, fabrication and testing of scientific equipment of most all types. The labor rate for in-house work is $60/hr for assessment and $30 an hour for repairs. Jobs for off-campus customers are welcome and negotiated.
